An old Hebrew joke goes, "If you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans", whilst an Arab proverb tells us we should "trust in god but do not forget to tie your camel to the rail" and then when taking up Zen advice was given to "Treat everything as if it is a big joke whilst treating everything as if it is the most sserious thing in the whole world" In his sermon on the mount Jesus admonished those listening to "not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring troubles of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today"....... Words of wisdom or meaningless rubbish? These 'religions' would be seen as a part of the problem today yet in their beginings were veiwed as both marginal and threatening to the established order. Whilst we may describe ourselves as beleivers, athiests or pagans we can miss a lot by dismissing out of hand words from the past that were based upon observavion and experiential practice, so let's have our resolutions and time managment and task lists but let's also be aware that "Task completion wishful thinking" syndrome is something that if we let it will reinforce the negative thoughts instilled at school and daily built upon by the media and zeitgist around us and will drag us down back to the realm of "Chronos", whereas our true home would be with "Kairos". The Sufis talk of 'Time, place & opportunity' but we need to make our own luck
