Fair points Simon, but I suspect the reason is more to do with dramatic tension - showing how to build a compost bog might be worthy and realistic but doesn't make for good TV drama (unless its this one at Dial House ;) http://www.spiralseed.co.uk/bog/) wheras blokes running around with guns taking over supermarkets and dodgy govt officials setting up secret labs does. After all its a drama not a documentary!

Superb post, Aranya.

Important advice about some of the things many of us take for granted in this country. For example, I doubt many people in the U.K. truly consider the consequences of being without "adequate" toilet facilities for any length of time. It would be great if the programme's producers would choose to feature this stuff in the programme in order to bring the facts you have written about to wider public attention.

Mind you, I can imagine TV execs not wanting to upset too many of their viewers "sensitivities" by highlighting some this stuff. "Best-not-let-reality-get-in-the-way-of-entertainment" kind of philosophy. This is a missed opportunity by the BBC of reminding us of our environmental and social responsibilities. Thank goodness people like you are telling it to us straight.

Thanks, Aranya
